The Valley Line

My getaway was to Yosemite and the historic Ahwahnee Hotel, a place where for some, the cares of the world could be temporarily carried away by the wind that sings through the giant pines and soars over the crest of Half Dome. This granite mountain, one of Yosemite’s most familiar landmarks, was perfectly framed by the picture-window in my well-appointed room.

Fixing Yosemite National Park’s famed Ahwahnee Hotel so it won’t collapse in a major earthquake will not begin for at least five years, the park’s top official said Monday.
