HEART TRANSPLANT SURVIVOR COMPLETES MAJOR YOSEMITE CLIMB
Associated Press

YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK, Calif. (AP) - You don’t have to tell Kelly Perkins it takes heart to climb a mountain.
The Southern California woman, who got a new heart 13 years ago, has finished another climb — the 2,000-foot sheer face of Half Dome at Yosemite National Park. It took her and her husband, plus a guide, 2.5 days.
Perkins’ other conquests include California’s Mount Whitney, Switzerland’s Matterhorn, Japan’s Mount Fuji, Tanzania’s Mount Kilimanjaro, and the face of Yosemite’s El Capitan.
The medical director of UCLA Medical Center’s transplant program says he knows of no other woman with a heart transplant who’s achieved one high-elevation climb after another.
Perkins, who is 46 and from Laguna Niguel, says she wants to show that you may not be 100%, but you can still be as strong as others.
Such a positive story. A true inspiration how some people
are so strong willed and inspired by the beauty of nature.

That is great she did her dream and I hope her heart keeps going with drive and determination this woman obviously has.

Your article on Kelly Perkins is a welcome change from all of the wildfire issues. She is truly an amazing woman.

That’s such an inspiring article! It’s so comforting to know that even though I don’t take advantage of great opportunities, others still can, no matter what their health condition or (see previous article) disability. I can’t wait to be able to visit Yosemite Park and see all the beauties in person!
